The December 2009 Division 9 Newsletter.
This is the expanded online edition. Topics covered include a review of the November operating sessions (attended by 8 people) and some of their comments, a discussion about upcoming elections, and the December clinic, Geodesic Scenery, by John Young
Geodesic Foam Scenery is a quick alternative to plaster or foam scenery as the base scenery layer on any layout. This months clinician, John Young, says he has done virtually all his model railroading as a member of modular railroad clubs. A NMRA member since 1994 he’s also a member of OPSIG and LDSIG. John was a founding member of the Capital Area Railway Society of Lansing and a past officer of Division 9’s own Rails on Wheels HO modular club from 1994 to 2006. John, along with Jeff Fryman and Duane Heard, founded the Modular Alliance HO multi-club set ups first presented in Madison, WI. He has worked to bring modular layouts to eight NMRA National Conventions and National Trains Shows and recently served as Regional coordinator for clinics at Detroit’s 2007 NMRA National Convention. John also worked with Fritz Milhaupt, Jeff Fryman and Al Robertson to create the Operations Road Show Layout. He’s currently involved in launching a HO scale Freemo style layout in Southeast Michigan and a 1978 era Chessie System modular layout in N scale.
